Stratus Clean Franchise | Commercial Cleaning | Rob Lancit
Anyone who wants his career origin story, or a prospect trying to understand the master franchise role.
In short
In this 21-minute episode of 1851 Franchise’s interview series, Rob Lancit starts with how he entered franchising 27 years earlier. He had left a business and did not know his next move. A friend who was a headhunter sent him to a technology company that was doing something with franchising, and he says he knew nothing about either. After a two-hour interview that ended with the vice president walking out of the room, he assumed he had failed. He was paged after he got home, met the president the next day and was hired.
The company sent him to his first IFA convention, with about 3,000 attendees. He knew nobody, started back to his room at lunch, then turned around because he had come to learn. He was seated next to a man who turned out to be the founder of Subway, Fred DeLuca, who gave him guidance over the following years.
He traces the rest briefly: the franchisor side first, then an online franchise directory in Canada and the UK that he ran for 15 to 18 years and sold, then consulting, then Stratus. He says he joined because of the integrity of the people running it. He has candidates speak with the company’s president and CEO to judge whether their values match.
He cites a Franchise Business Review survey in which 86 percent of Stratus master franchisees said they would do it again and would recommend it to family and friends. He defines winning as making a difference in someone’s life.
