In short
The first edition sets the premise. Rob Lancit says that watching a kid walk into an avoidable disaster feels a lot like franchising, and that he has made the mistakes he plans to warn readers about.
He reports on three franchise events in Tampa in one trip. At The National Franchise Show he worked the Stratus Building Solutions booth, and says nothing replaces face-to-face conversations with people at some stage of trying to build a business. At the first Franchise Marketing Live his main conclusion was that AI is not replacing franchise development. It is taking over busywork so developers can spend time on real conversations. At the Hello Mastermind event he rejoined a peer group he credits with helping him through personal and professional challenges. He singles out Liane Caruso for the work she puts into making people at these events feel welcome.
A section headed On the Road to 100 notes that he is on the cover of the November issue of Franchising Magazine USA, and that Stratus has 93 master franchise territories with a goal of 100.
The closing section, Unsolicited Dad Advice, contains the sentence that later became the title of his book: take my advice, I’m not using it. The advice for the month is not to confuse motion with progress. If a to-do list grows faster than results, he says to stop and ask whether you are moving toward something or only moving.
“There’s a big difference between being busy and being effective.”
